Mission Statement: St. Michael’s Christian Community, located on the Menominee Indian Reservation, is a diverse Christian community reaching out to all residents, learning, loving, sharing and communicating with one another through the teachings and practices celebrated in the Mass & the holy sacraments of the Catholic Church by integrating sacred symbols and spiritual practices of the Menominee. 

 A Note From Your Deacon

 This weekend we joyfully celebrate “All Saints Day.”  All baptized Christians who have died and are now with God in glory are considered saints. All Saints Day is intended to honor the memory of countless unknown and un-canonized saints who have no feast days. Today we thank God for giving ordinary men and women a share in His holiness and Heavenly glory as a reward for their Faith. This feast is observed to teach us to honor the saints, both by imitating their lives and by seeking their intercession for us before Christ. The Church reminds us today that God’s call for holiness is universal, that all of us are called to live in His love and to make His love real in the lives of those around us.  We grow in holiness when we live lives of integrity, truth, justice, charity, mercy, and compassion, sharing our blessings with others.

We need to accept the challenge to become saints. Jesus exhorts us: “Be made perfect as your Heavenly Father is Perfect” (Mt 5:48). St. Augustine asked: “If he and she can become saints, why can’t I?” We all can become saints by choosing well by doing good and avoiding sin, by choosing to follow Christ, all the way to heaven.  We need to take the shortcuts practiced by three St. Teresa’s: 1) St. Teresa of Avila: Recharge your spiritual batteries every day by prayer, namely, listening to God and talking to Him 2) St. Therese of Lisieux: Convert every action into prayer by offering it to God for His glory and for the salvation of souls and by doing God’s will to the best of your ability. 3) St. Teresa of Calcutta (Mother Teresa): Do ordinary things with great love. Do something beautiful for God.

Upon Further Reflection

St. Pope John XXIII, served as pope from 1958 to 1963.  His most famous joke came when a journalist innocently asked him, “Your Holiness, how many people work in the Vatican?”  John paused, thought it over, and said, “About half of them.”  

Someone once asked John about the Italian habit of closing offices in the afternoon.  “Your Holiness, we understand that the Vatican is closed in the afternoon, and people don’t work then.”  Ah no!” said the pope.  “The offices are closed in the afternoon. People don’t work in the morning!”

The Mass: A Slice at a time

In celebrating and administering the Eucharist, priests and deacons are to wear the sacred vestments prescribed by the rubrics. (Canon 929)

A priest who is ill or elderly, if he is unable to stand, may celebrate the Eucharistic Sacrifice sitting but otherwise observing the liturgical laws; he may not, however, do so in public except by permission of the local Ordinary (bishop). (Canon 930.1)

A priest who is blind or suffering from some other infirmity, may lawfully celebrate the Eucharistic Sacrifice by using the text of any approved Mass, with the assistance, if need be, of another priest or deacon or even a properly instructed lay person. (Canon 930.2)

Religious Education Update 

Due to the current COVID situation, St. Michael’s Faith  Formation classes will not be meeting. It is our belief that “Parents/guardians are their children’s primary and principal educators”. This guideline and philosophy of the Bishops’ of the United States is our motivation.  We are sending packets to help teach children about God’s love and our Catholic faith.  Every month we will send out a month’s worth of weekly lessons that go along with the Gospel reading of the week with other teaching materials about the traditions of our Catholic faith.  If you wish to have the packets sent to your home, please call the parish office or pick up a form in the entrance to church.

Mass Reopening

Mass will be open at 50% capacity. If you are at high risk, please sit in the reserved front pews, socially distanced.  Temperature, masks and social distancing will be enforced for the remainder of the church.

Mass for Deceased of St. Michael

The Ghost Supper has been cancelled due to COVID restrictions. There will be Masses said on Saturday, Nov 14 at 5 pm and Sunday, Nov 15 at 9 am for the Faithful Departed of St. Michael’s in the past year.  A letter was sent to each family stating the Mass that their loved one’s name will be called.   Call the Parish Office if you have any questions regarding this. 

St. Michael Prayer

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle, be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.  May God rebuke him we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls.  Amen

 Universal Giving Page

The Catholic Foundation is excited to share with us that they have created a Universal Giving Page at www.catholicfoundationgb.org/donate.  This is a great resource for our parish as we do not have an on line giving program. It makes giving to our parish simple and easy!  The Catholic Foundation will be cutting a check weekly to our parish along with a report of what families gave to the parish and the amount of each gift.   

Holy Hour will be the first Thursday, of the month, 6-7pm. This will start in December.

Food Pantry

The food pantry will be open on Tuesday,  November 3^rd  & 17^th.  There will be drive up service only. Please do not get out of your vehicle and have the rear passenger seat empty.

Thrift N Gift/Garage     

Thrift N Gift will be open Tuesday,November 3^rd  & 17^th.^h noon to 3 pm. Only eight people can be in the store at one time and everyone must have on a mask. No children will be allowed. Social Distancing of 6 feet is required also.

Book Share

While Book Share has no set times/ days to be open, it is still available to visit for finding books.  Just let the office know or email Anne at sailkees@yahoo.com, or send a message through the St. Michael’s Facebook page to set up a convenient time to visit.  We are over loaded and have all sorts of books for all ages!  Thanksgiving children’s books will be out and soon a lot of Christmas books, both for kids and adults as well as crafts and food.  Lots and lots of cookbooks, both newer and old ones!
