CONFIRMATION:
“All these things come from within and they defile.” Jesus speaks these words to the Pharisees who are very strict in the observance of the Law, especially the laws on purity. They believe that if one does not care about washing food and dishes, one defiles oneself. It is bad religion not to follow this tradition. All Jews must follow the interpretations of the Pharisees to be able to participate in Temple worship and other religious activities. Jesus reacts to this teaching, regarding it pure hypocrisy. It pays more attention to the external than to the internal. Jesus clarifies what defiles a person. It is not what the person takes in but what comes out of him. Evil does not come from unwashed food and dishes. Evil comes from within, from the heart, from bad attitudes. What defiles us is what make us violent and turns us into thieves, and murderers, etc. In our catechism, we call it the seven capital sins. To be pleasing to God, we must overcome our negative energies. They can easily surface when provoked and can devastate others. So let us do more than simply hear God’s laws for we are called to act on them in love.

Lectors and Eucharistic Ministers Needed
Come help celebrate the Mass by joining us as a lector or Eucharistic minister on Saturday or Sundays.

Knowing where you stand
Opinions are easy to come by. People today are all too ready to share their theories, no matter how bizarre, with anyone willing to listen. And in this barrage of “new age” concepts, Christians can easily get confused. Trendy theories will interfere with our personal faith if we spend too much time paying heed.
Jesus knew what that was like. When He spoke to the disciples, He first asked them, “Who do people say that I am?” and listened calmly to all the theories. Then Jesus quietly asked, “but who do you say that I am?” His simple question called to the disciples’ hearts, urging them to step away from popular theories and rumor, relying instead on His teachings. It’s a matter of knowing where you stand. When you stand firmly in God’s house, relying on His doctrines, you won’t be swayed by the latest religious fad. Ask yourself today, who do I say Jesus is? Do my answers come from scripture and the church’s teachings or have I found them in the latest bestseller?

Saturday Mass
Saturday Mass time will remain at 5 pm after Labor Day. In the past, this was changed to 4 pm for the fall and winter months. This causes a lot of confusion with all the internet publications of the Mass time so it will remain 5 pm.
Fellowship Sunday/Book Share
Next Sunday, September 9th, we will have Fellowship Sunday following 9 am Mass. Doughnuts, coffee and juice will be served. This is a great time to socialize with parish members/visitors. Book Share will also be open that day. Please mark your calendar and join us after Mass that day.
Thrift & Gift Furniture Garage:
We are looking for some strong individuals to help with pick up of furniture and miscellaneous household items. The current volunteers doing this job are in their 70’s and 80’s. It is getting very difficult for these volunteers to load/unload furniture. This would not be a great time commitment. When we get a call for a large pick up, a time would be set up. If you are interested in helping, please call the Parish Office at 715-799-3811
Parish Envelopes
If you would like to become a registered member of St. Michael and receive envelopes to record your contributions to your parish and receive a statement of annual contributions for your taxes, all you need to do is contact the parish office. Call 715-799-3811 or stop in during office hours.
Fellowship Sunday
Starting on Sunday, September 9th, we will have Fellowship Sunday following 9 am Mass. Doughnuts, coffee and juice will be served. This is a great time to socialize with parish members/visitors. Please mark your calendar and join us after Mass that day.
St. Francis Solanus Corn Fest is coming Wednesday, September 12, serving from 4-7pm! Please support this event by joining us for fresh corn on the cob, pulled pork or sloppy joe sandwiches, dessert, and beverages.
Holy Hour
Holy Hour will be the First Thursday of the month at St. Michael at 6 pm. Please join us on September 6th.
Food Pantry
Due to Labor Day Holiday on Monday, September 3rd, we will be unable to pick up food for our Food Pantry that day. Therefore, food pantry will be open the following week, Tuesday,, September 11 from 1-3 pm. We will also be open Tuesday, September 18 from 1-3 pm. We are in need of brown paper bags, personal hygiene items and meat sauce.
St. Michael’s Thrift & Gift
All money made at Thrift & Gift/Furniture Garage is given directly to the Food Pantry. The Food Pantry buys food as needed. Thrift & Gift will be open this month September 4th, 11th and 18th from noon to 3 pm. If you have a donation, it can be dropped off at Parish Office or Thrift & Gift. We are currently looking for silverware and we are in need of towels. Thank.
Book Share
Book share is open the second Sunday of the month following 9 am Mass in conjunction with Fellowship Sunday, which will be September 9th. Will you consider hosting one of the Sundays left this year? It would be greatly appreciated! Remember we have books for all ages, lots of cookbooks, resource books and religious too! You are always welcome to drop books off either at the entrance to church before Mass or at the church office when they are open.. Questions, please call Anne Sulskis at 715-851-0160. Thank you!
Estate Planning

Mass for the homebound:
Mass services for the Homebound are offered by the following TV stations: WACY-TV- channel 32 at 8:00 am Sundays, WBAY-TV-channel 2 at 5:30 am on Sundays. Mass offered online at www.Heartofthenation.org. Check the website for times and dates.
Maintenance Position
We are looking for a part-time maintenance person, approximately 19 hours a week. Responsible for light maintenance, grounds upkeep, cleaning the church, hall set-up, take down, etc. Contact the parish office 715-799-3811 for an application.
