 A Note from Father Nonito

The mission of Jesus is to bring peace. However, one may wonder why Jesus declares that he has come to set the earth on fire and to establish not peace on earth, but rather division. He seems to be so careless with his words. What is he really talking about?

The division Jesus refers to has nothing to do with Christians being divisive. Neither has it anything to do with discrimination, racism, or elitism. But it is the result of choosing Jesus and living out his values and teachings which could be against the prevailing culture of the time. Jesus creates division among people - whether they are for him or against them. One cannot remain neutral. This is because, like a true prophet, Jesus challenges us to take sides, not remain fence-sitters.

To follow Jesus is to stand up for his values and teachings even though we could be unpopular to others. Let us have the courage to be always faithful to him, to always take his side.

In Jesus Christ,

Fr. Nonito

The Mass – A slice at a time

The Priest breaks the Eucharistic Bread, with the assistance, if the case requires, of the Deacon or a concelebrant. The gesture of breaking bread done by Christ at the Last Supper, which in apostolic times gave the entire Eucharistic Action its name, signifies that the many faithful are made one body by receiving Communion from the one Bread of Life, which is Christ, who for the salvation of the world died and rose again. The fraction or breaking of bread is begun after the sign of peace and is carried out with proper reverence, and should not be unnecessarily prolonged or accorded exaggerated importance. This rite is reserved to the Priest and the Deacon. To be continued…

Administrative Assistant St. Francis and St. Mary

St. Francis Solanus & St. Mary’s is hiring a 19 hour per week administrative assistant.

The parish center administrative assistant is responsible for overseeing the smooth running of the parish office functions and volunteers in addition to providing administrative services for the pastor. The Administrative assistant is expected to perform a wide variety of moderately difficult and complex tasks. Interested candidates should submit a resume and cover letter to the parish office. This position ultimately reports to the Parish Administrator.

I have accepted an ELL Instructional Assistant position with the Wittenberg-Birnamwood school district. I’ll be working with Spanish speaking students and their families.  I am very excited for this new opportunity and to use my gifts and talents to help others. Thank you for the three years of serving as the parish secretary for St. Francis Solanus and St. Mary’s. I’ll be working limited hours until the position is filled.
