A Note from Your Pastor
Jesus patiently attends to the needs of everyone, easing their pain and restoring them to health. And he wants also others to be involved. So, he asks his disciples to feed the hungry crowds. He is not willing to send them away hungry; they have listened to him; he has cured their sick. Now it is the disciples’ turn to do something for the crowds. They, too, must show compassion to them. However, the disciples argue that they have only meager resources, only five loaves of bread and a couple of fish.
Jesus ask for the bread and fish, prays over them, says the blessing, and breaks the bread. Then he gives the bread to his disciples for distribution. We cannot imagine how the bread is multiplied. We do not know what happens to the fish. But the disciples are able to give food to the crowds. They, too, show compassion for the people. They are not just Jesus’ disciples or his companions to protect him. They are empowered to do more.
Discipleship is not a matter of just being with and listening to Jesus. It is also sharing the graces and blessings from Jesus to others.
In Jesus,
Fr. Nonito
Seminarian Collection Kickoff:
A spiritual family needs spiritual fathers. That is why the 15th Annual Seminarian Collection: Hope for the Future, Help them Today is so important. By now you most likely received a letter from Bishop Ricken requesting your help in supporting our local seminarians. Please return your generous contribution to this collection, using the pledge card and return envelope you received in the mail. A gift of $15, $150, $515 or more will help our seminarians move forward in their work of becoming missionary disciples. Every gift makes a difference. Our seminarians are our Hope for the Future, Let us Help them Today! As a Diocese, we anticipate costs of $1,000,000 this year for tuition, room and board, health insurance, support of the Office of Vocations and the work of Fr. Mark Mleziva and Fr. Adam Bradley. Friends and followers of Jesus support one another! To make a gift today, visit www.catholicfoundationgb.org/give.
The Mass: A Slice at a time
It is most strongly recommended that the faithful receive holy communion in the course of a eucharistic celebration. If, however, for good reason they ask for it apart from the Mass, it is to be administered to them, observing the liturgical rites. (Canon 918). This just cause is simply satisfaction of the devotion of receiving communion daily, so strongly recommended by the Church, for any person who has been unable to attend Mass or who was unable to receive communion at Mass. When requested in a suitable place and at a suitable time-according to the law- the minister is under the obligation to provide it. However, it is a basic principle of sacramental theology that the normal context for receiving communion is within a Mass. From that sound perspective, apart from the Viaticum and communion to the sick, receiving communion extra Missam is an exceptional case.

St. Michael Prayer
St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle, be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. 2020 FUNDRAISERS $7,655.00 of $10,000
Due to COVID-19, the 2020 fundraisers at St. Michael’s have been suspended until it is safe to resume. The Festival scheduled for June 27th has been our biggest fundraising event raising on average $10,000. We are suggesting a non-fundraiser fundraiser in lieu of this big event. You do not need to sell or buy raffle tickets, cook anything, bake anything, volunteer your time, work in the heat, set up, clean up or do dishes! We would be grateful for monetary donations to offset the loss of this source of revenue to keep our Parish solvent. Please mail or drop off donations at the Parish office or drop in the collection basket indicating it is for fundraising. Thank you for your continued support of our Parish during this time.
