MERRY CHRISTMAS my dear brothers and sisters!
This last article for this month speaks about Christmas… if asked what Christmas means, we would always think about its theological perspective or we remember the teaching in our catechesis, so we may say; the first Christmas took place in Bethlehem some centuries ago (and all we have from that day until now is a commemoration of that first Christmas) we were taught in faith that it was the Birth of Jesus. Christmas is the initial realization of the salvific love of God, manifested in his Only Begotten Son – the Word made Flesh has come to earth to save us from our sins. The Son of God has to be born of man to show historical evidence that He has come into the world so that whatever told about Him (Jesus) from off old may be proven exactly at how they happened and ultimately to satisfy God’s plan of salvation.
Now, if we will be asked what Christmas is all about based from these theological insights but at the same time with our very experience of it every year as we celebrate it since we were born, what is Christmas all about then for you?: Is it all about gifts/presents…? Is it about parties...and food? Is it about shopping (madness) discounts…? Is it about snow…or winter wonderland…? Is it about Christmas tree…? Is it about exchanging greeting cards…or Christmas carols…or colorful lights? Is it about making snow man or snow balls or snow angels…? Is it about going on ice fishing…or skiing…? Is it about being good for goodness sake…? Is it about Santa Claus’ coming to town with his sleigh and reindeers? Is it about ‘moving-on’…? Is it about being alone away from home…or is it a family moment of gathering…? Is it about mom and dad…or is it about our children, or husband or wife…? Is it about friendship…? Is it about concern…or consolation? Is it about generosity…? Is it about acceptance…? Is it about humility…? Is it about resolutions…? Is it about grief…and loneliness? Is it about peace…or serenity? Is it about feeling of rejection…? Is it really happiness and laughter…? Is it about hope…? Is it about our anxieties of many things…or being paranoid in some instances? Is it all about security…? Is it about a much better life style…or prosperity? Is it about respect…? Is it about people around us…? Is it about relationship with one another…? Is it about miracle…? Is it about thanksgiving…? Is it about blessings and grace…? Is it about a promise…? Is it about justice…? Is it about honor…or privilege? Is it about forgiveness…or repentance/“change of heart”…? Is it about holiday…or Holy day…? Is it about your Faith…? Is it all about Love…? Is it all about the child JESUS in the manger…and in our hearts?
