Deacon Mark Writing

This past weekend, I flew back to my hometown in Buffalo, to visit with my father and celebrate his 84th birthday.  These past few years have not been easy for my dad as he has struggled with depression, poor health, and loneliness at the loss of my step-mother.  He has told me many times that he has never lived alone before and how hard it was for him now.  I had prayed for our Lord’s help before I went on this trip, knowing that there is so little I could do to change his life circumstances.  I also knew that giving my answers to his problems would fall on deaf ears.  As I prayed, it came to me that all I could really do was be “present” to my father, by listening to his struggles, helping him with some little things that needed to be done around the house, and trying to do this all with great love.  I was inspired by a quote of St. Theresa of Calcutta that I found a few weeks ago, “We can do no great things, only small things with great love.”  This was my inspiration.  This was the grace, the help from God that I needed on my visit back home last week.  The grace to be present to someone in their suffering and trust that is all God is asking in that moment was truly a gift.   I was reminded of all this when reading today’s second reading where Jesus tells a complaining Paul, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness.”   We all have struggles in our families and have family members that are wounded and hurting.   Jesus’ promise to Paul is also a promise for all of us.  His grace is sufficient; His grace and constant help will see us and our loved ones through the difficult circumstances of our lives.  In our weakness, His mercy and love is always strong.

Upon Further Reflection:

A priest was asked by a politician, “Name one thing the government can do to help the church.”

The priest replied, “Quit making $1 bills.”

In His mercy,

Deacon Mark

The Mass – A slice at a time

Gestures and Bodily Posture

The faithful should stand from the beginning of the Entrance Chant, or while the Priest approaches the altar, until the end of the Collect; for the Alleluia Chant before the Gospel; while the Gospel itself is proclaimed; during the Profession of Faith and the Universal Prayer; and from the invitation (Pray, brethren), before the Prayer over the Offerings until the end of Mass.

Faith Formation Update

We will be starting Faith Formation again in September, 2018.   Registration forms for the 2018-2019 session are available in the main entrance of church and will be available at the St. Michael’s Family Picnic on June 24th..  Remember to keep God with you this SUMMER!

Lectors and Eucharistic Ministers Needed

Come help celebrate the Mass by joining us as a lector or Eucharistic minister on Saturday or Sundays.  Preparation is minimal and the rewards of this service are enriching and fulfilling. Please contact the Parish Office at St. Michaels if interested. (715) 799-3811

Michael’s Cleaning Ministry

Scrubbing floors. Mopping and sweeping. It may not be glamorous work, but it’s a wonderful way to serve the Lord and give back for all of His blessings. Indeed, we are often told that “cleanliness is next to Godliness.”

Father Joel is asking a group of parishioners to Volunteer to clean the sacristy, altar, and chapel twice a month as part of the Church Cleaning Ministry. We would like to get two groups of volunteers so you would only clean once a month for two hours. We will meet the 1st & 3rd Tuesday of the month at 10 am. If you have any questions, please call Sylvia at 715-799-3983.  Please join us!

MAINTENANCE POSITION:

Parish Envelopes:

As of printing time of this bulletin, our envelopes have not yet arrived.  With our secretary incurring an accident in early May, the envelopes were not ordered until a few weeks ago.  The company assured us they would be available before July 1st, which is next weekend. They will be put out in church as soon as they arrive.  I am sorry for any inconvenience this has caused parish members.

Peter’s Pence Collection - June 30th & July 1st

Today is the Peter’s Pence Collection, a worldwide collection that supports the charitable works of Pope Francis.  Funds from this collection help victims of war, oppression, and natural disasters. Take this opportunity to join with Pope Francis and be a witness of charity to our suffering brothers and sisters. Please be generous today. For more information, visit www.usccb.org/peters-pence.

Kateri Prayer Circle

Never underestimate the power of prayer. Just one small prayer can change your life. If you or your family members need prayers for any reason, please call one of our Kateri Prayer Circle members, who will in turn call members of their group.  Soon, many prayers will be offered for your specific prayer request.  Please call:

Fay Waupochick 715-799-3437

Leatha Grinhaug 715-994-1098

You can also call the parish office with your Prayer request 715-799-3811

Mass Intentions

Pope Paul VI said, “The Mass is the most perfect form of prayer!” It has immense power and countless miracles and conversions have occurred throughout the centuries by offering Masses for a specific intention or person. Mass intentions are a great treasure of the Church and have a spiritual weight that is incalculable.

The important part is to remember that you are not paying for the graces from God (which are of infinite value and cannot be paid for), but for the material things that are involved with celebrating that particular Mass. With that in mind it makes much more sense and is not something that should cause scandal. It is suggested donation of $10.00 per Mass. Please stop by the Parish Office if you would like to schedule a Mass intention.
