    PARISH MISSION STATEMENT

We are a Christian community called together to grow in faith and to celebrate God’s love for us in the Mass and Sacraments of the Catholic Church.  Through the gospel message and our common worship we are challenged to give Christian witness by our lives and service to others.

Father Joel Writes

Posoh!

Posoh! and welcome to St. Michael Church in the land of the Menominee Nation.

Gratia et gaudium in fide!

Happy Father’s Day to all our Dads. Rest assured of our St. Michael’s faith community prayers for your intentions. Be happy, don’t worry, be happy, this day is one of those happy days, for you are our Daddy and Grandpa. More blessings to you!!!

I would like to once again acknowledge those who generously had given to our Bishop’s appeal and I’m proud to inform you that our Bishop wrote us a letter thanking our parish for having exceeded the target amount assigned to us. So, truly we are doing great progress in this area. Thanks a lot to all of you, dearest parishioners and visitors of St. Michael Church in the Land of the Menominee Nation. Rest assured of my prayers for your intentions.

A lot of kneeling will keep you in good standing or He who kneels before God can stand before anyone. I just love these one liner sayings and so I hope we can, under certain circumstances, do the kneeling as a Church of St. Michael more often and maybe not only on Holy Eucharistic Celebrations, but of course it’s your call. The Jubilee Year of Mercy is calling our attention on His abundant mercy to be sought and to be shared. Let’s do our step towards Him so we can share that grace to others.

The invitation of our Gospel today says: If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. Peter was blessed with a prophetic voice revealing Jesus true identity as the Messiah. This term carried many expectations for the Jewish people who suffered much oppression by outside powers. They longed to throw off the occupying force of Rome and return to self-rule. Our Lord Jesus response to Peter’s declaration of his messianic identity was: The son of man must suffer greatly and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes and be killed and on the third day raised. He tells his disciples that they too must deny themselves in order to follow him.

We too, as modern disciples of our Lord, are called to speak with a prophetic voice. We live in a world where self-serving behavior is more common than self-denial. Getting ahead in life is more popular than getting to heaven. Understanding this and other stuff going on in the wrong direction, let’s kneel before the Lord and surrender, obey and trust that when we do as prophet’s voice in our time and when we do it in Jesus Holy Name with the Holy Spirit in our side we are on the right track in life towards true peace and happiness. Happy weekend everyone and God bless.

Your Co-Traveler,

 Father Joel

 FAITH FORMATION UPDATES

Now that summer is in full swing, the opportunity for families to share quality time together is here.  Don’t forget to leave your faith with you to your summer fun.  Listed below are just a few ideas for family fun from the Catholic site, Good Faith Guarantee.

Nature Walk and Creation. Here’s a two-part activity; you can save Part Two for a rainy day. Begin by reading St. Francis of Assisi’s “Canticle of the Sun”. Then take a walk—or even a long hike, depending on your children’s ages and abilities, and collect items to make a wreath, pinecone creation, or sun catcher. Later, when the weather turns cool and rainy, you’ll have the supplies you need to spend a quiet afternoon crafting together.

Water Fun. What could be better than cool fun on a hot day? Start by sharing a Scripture story featuring water: for example, the Creation, the Baptism of the Lord, or the Wedding at Cana. Depending on your children’s ages, your family might enjoy a water balloon toss, splash contest in the pool, experiments with floating, sinking and evaporation, or a bathtub-duckie race.

COMMITTEE INFORMATION   (Continued from last week)

Terms: With the exception of the pastor and secretary lay trustee, members serve for three year terms, renewable once. Renewal is based on the willingness of the member, and the mutual agreement of the pastor and members of the council. Following six years of service, after one year of absence, individuals can be considered again for selection. Terms should be staggered to allow for continuity from year to year.

Vacancies: When vacancies occur, they should be filled as soon as possible.  Appointment shall be made by the pastor from those not selected by lot during the previous council selection process. When this is not possible, the pastor shall consult with members of the council and appoint new members.  The new person completes the unexpired term of the departing member.

Resource persons and concerned members:  These are parish leaders who receive council agendas and minutes. Typically they do not attend meetings unless there is an item of specific importance to them or the area of concern they are interested in. Depending on the needs of the local parish, this may include members of staff, treasurer lay trustee, chairperson of the finance council, chairpersons of other major committees and parish organizations.

Conflict of Interest:

  1. No parish employee, full or part-time may serve on the council.
  2. Immediate members of the family of a full or part time parish employee may not serve on the
  3. pastoral council. Immediate family members would include spouse, child, parent or sibling.
  4. Only one immediate family member can serve on either finance council or the pastoral council at the same time. Therefore, for example, it is not permissible for a father of a family to serve on the pastoral council while his daughter serves on the finance council.
  5. Should any unforeseen conflicts of interest arise, due to business, personal relationship or other reasons, the member with the potential conflict of interest should advise members of the council accordingly and absent him or herself from discussion and decision making.
