A Note from Fr. Joel

The Church solemnly celebrated last Sunday the last Sunday of the liturgical calendar by honoring Jesus Christ, our Lord, as the King of the Universe, towards whom everything is being created, sustained and directed to be submitted. Today we are being invited once again by the same liturgy of the Church to begin a new journey as we continue to listen to the wisdom of the Word of God proclaimed in every celebration of the Holy Mass in the Church, food we need in this journey of life and faith.

As we all know that this season of advent, coming or arrival of the promised Savior in the history of the people of Israel, our brothers in faith, is also a time for us, Christians, to prepare ourselves. And within ourselves with joyful heart prepare a holy space and time for Him to dwell, to stay, and be with each and every one of us and so received Him as a loving gift of God the Father and be our light for the journey.

“Discover Jesus, Follow Jesus, Worship Jesus and Share Jesus” is the pastoral program of our dearly beloved Bishop David Ricken. Rightly so, let’s give more time and effort in focusing on Jesus over and above other things that come our life. Our faith and trust in our Lord Jesus Christ is the source of strength and peace. Welcome to Advent season, God bless us all!

Co-Traveler, Fr. Joel

The Mass – A slice at a time

The Biblical Readings

The Responsorial Psalm

After the First Reading follows the Responsorial Psalm, which is an integral part of the Liturgy of the Word and which has great liturgical and pastoral importance, since it fosters meditation on the Word of God. The Responsorial Psalm should correspond to each reading and should usually be taken from the Lectionary.

On Wednesday November 28th the Faith Formation students discussed Advent.  Each child made their own Advent Prayer chain to count down to Christmas and also offer daily prayers. Students also prepared for Reconciliation next Wednesday December 5th.  Thank you to our new helpers in the Kindergarten/ First grade room Mary and Danielle.

Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Sat. December 8, 2018

Yes, Immaculate Conception is still a Holy Day of Obligation this year, even if it falls on a Saturday. Catholics are therefore obligated to participate in two Masses that weekend:

1)      Mass for the Immaculate Conception (sometime between 4pm on Friday, Dec. 7 and 4pm on Saturday Dec. 8) and

2)      Mass for the 2nd Sunday of Advent thereafter as usual.

Holy Day Mass schedule:

Friday, Dec. 7th 6:30 pm St. Michael & St. Mary, Leopolis

Saturday Dec 8th 8 am St. Francis and 8:30 am St. Anthony.

Advent Reconciliation Service

This Advent season, St. Michael Parish will hear confessions from 5:30 - 7:30 pm on Wednesday December 5th. This special date and time will be in addition to our regularly-scheduled confessions. On December 12th, St. Mary Leopolis will be having a Reconciliation Service from 5:30 – 7:30 pm. If you have been reluctant to come to the sacrament, have been away for some time, or just find it difficult to attend a regularly scheduled confession time, this is a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with Christ and his Church. We pray that all will take advantage of God's abundant healing grace, forgiveness and love.
