A Note from FatherJoel
The last Sunday of the civic year calendar is for us Christians always a celebration of the Holy Family. What a weekend to celebrate honoring the Holy Family of Jesus, Mama Mary and Joseph as we close the year calendar. Back to Family!!!!
This weekend readings call us to attitudes and actions that can bring harmony and joy to our family life. Sirach, echoing the lesson of the Fourth Commandment, emphasizes our call to obey, honor, respect and even revere our parents. He notes the many blessings that this reverent and respectful attitude can bring us. In a sense when we honor our parents, we also honor our God, who worked through those parents to bring us life. The book of Catechism reminds us that respect and honor to parents “derives from gratitude toward those who, by the gift of life, their love and their work, have brought their children into the world and enabled them to grow in stature, wisdom, and grace” (CCC2215). But sad to say, due to rapid phasing of time, many things are brought into our homes that if used not in a proper way or context, can distract our focus on the values of the family relationships and even destroy it. I am talking about the misuse of gadgets at home especially among kids and young adults bringing in a certain culture of disengagement, non-dialogue but monitor focus wasted times.
Before the year 2019 ends, may I humbly ask you all forgiveness for all the time I was able to meet your expectations and I was not in my best in celebrating masses for you. Thank you.
Co-Traveler, Fr. Joel
The Mass: A Slice at a time
In the procession to the altar, the acolyte may carry the cross, walking between two ministers with lighted candles. Upon reaching the altar, however, the acolyte places the cross upright near the altar so that it may serve as the altar cross, otherwise, he puts it away in a dignified place. Then he takes his place in the sanctuary.
Through the entire celebration, it is for the acolyte to approach the Priest or the Deacon, whenever necessary, in order to present the book to them and to assist them in any way required. Thus it is appropriate that, in so far as possible, the acolyte should occupy a place from which he can easily carry out his ministry either at the chair or at the alta
Religious Education Update:
On Christmas Eve at the 5 pm Mass, the RE children performed a play about the Nativity story. Thank you to the children, catechists and family who helped and attended. No Class on Jan 1st. We will meet on Jan. 8th, 2020. Happy New Year from all of us at St. Michael’s Religious Education program!
St. Michael Prayer
St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle, be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen
