A Note from FatherJoel
Third Sunday of Advent:
Days ago, the Church celebrated the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Our Lady of Guadalupe, two of the several titles bestowed on the Blessed Virgin Mary to give her the honor that is due as the Mother of our Lord Jesus Christ and her unique role in the history of salvation, that with her maternal intercession in different times of need of the people of God, She is there for all of us. Thank you Mama Mary and we love you very much!
In this 3rd Sunday of our Advent journey, as we get closer to the season of joyful giving, symbolized by the rose colored candle of our wreath, the word of God invites us to rejoice instead of hopeful anticipation, because the Messiah is in our midst and we recognize him through the attributes that the Sacred Scriptures provided for us today. It is as if we have just received the job description written by God. Message of healing and recovery, fulfillment of the prophesies of old in Jesus Christ presence. Jesus told John the Baptist’s disciples: “Go and tell John what you hear and see”, in here, Jesus is confirming the biblical attributes given to the people in ancient times prophesied.
So, with Jesus in our lives, when we accept him as our Savior and Lord, he brings to us and gives us healing for all kinds of our illnesses. And so, come let us rejoice for the Lord is in our midst! A blessed 3rd Sunday everyone!
Co-Traveler, Fr. Joel
The Mass: A Slice at a time
The Functions of the People of God
Moreover, they are to form one body, whether in hearing the Word of God, or in taking part in the prayers and in the singing, or above all by the common offering of the Sacrifice and by participating together at the Lord’s table. This unity is beautifully apparent from the gestures and bodily postures observed together by the faithful. They should, moreover, not refuse to serve the People of God in gladness whenever they are asked to perform some particular service or function in the celebration.
Religious Education Update:
On Wednesday December 11, some of the students attended Reconciliation. We discussed Advent is an exciting time of preparation for Christmas. A game similar to hot potato was used to demonstrate what our waiting is like. We then watched about half of the movie “The Nativity” while treated to popcorn mixed with M&M’s. Then we read thru the Christmas play and next week we will practice in the church with costumes. Our play will be performed right before Mass on Christmas Eve at 5pm.
St. Michael Prayer
St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle, be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen
