A Note from Fr. Nonito

Commandments and Choices

If you choose you can keep the commandments, they will save you; if you trust in God, you too shall live; he has set before you fire and water to whichever you choose, stretch forth your hand.”  Sirach 15:15-16

Dear Friends:

In todays’ readings, we heard much about following God’s commandments.  Life is full of choices.  As human beings we don’t always make the best choices.  We are human.  We fall down.  We make mistakes.  Sometimes we pick ourselves up, other times it is harder to move on.  Sometimes we forgive, other times we can’t.  Sometimes, we just need help to figure things out.  Together we can rise in faith and share God’s love and mercy. Maybe you know somebody who needs help working through a problem.  Catholic Charities is a great place to refer people, it’s hard to believe all the amazing counseling services they provide.  They offer a light to people in darkness.  Mental health issues, poverty, debt management, bankruptcy, drug or gambling addiction, pregnancy, adoption and parenting support, family conflict – Catholic Charities helps people resolve problems and choose to make better choices. Your gift to the Bishop’s Appeal makes a tremendous difference to      Catholic Charities.  They are in a position to change or even save people’s lives.  To make a gift contact our parish office, use the letter and pledge you received at home or pick up a donation slip in the main entrance by the Bishop’s Appeal board. You can visit the Bishop’s Appeal website at www.catholicfoundationgb.org/give.

In Jesus Christ,

Fr. Nonito

Richard Heilmann speaking on Spiritual Warfare. Limited seating, please go to www.sgmgnew.com to register today.

The Mass: A Slice at a time

MASS INTENTION (Continued)

Mass intentions refer to the particular purpose for which a specific Mass is offered. This may be to honor God or thank him for blessings received. But technically a Mass intention means that the sacrifice is offered for some person(s) living or dead. Also called the application of a Mass, it pertains to the ministerial fruits of the Mass. These fruits are both extensively and intensively finite in virtue of the positive will of Christ. Other things being equal, the more often the sacrifice is offered the more benefit is conferred.

 Religious Education Update:

On Wednesday February 12th we had only 11 students come for classes. We gathered in church to pray together before enjoying a snack in the hall. The children and teachers then went downstairs to the classrooms to discuss this Sunday’s Gospel. Before leaving each child received a St. Valentine Day treat to take home. Thank you to all who braved the cold and snow to join us

Bishop Appeal

Life can be challenging.  There are times when people feel so lost.  They find help through Catholic Charities and the many programs and resources in our diocese.

Amanda was in an abusive relationship that took a toll on her physically, emotionally and financially.  This relationship left her battered, bruised, and in severe debt.  Through God’s grace, Amanda found help from several organizations, including Catholic Charities Financial Health Program.  With guidance from Bobbie Lison, Financial Health Counselor, Amanda learned to manage her money, prepared a plan to pull herself out of debt, paid her debts on-time and became self-sufficient.

“Going from $20,000 in debt to no debt…it’s amazing.  It feels great,” says Amanda.

Your gift to the Bishop’s Appeal helps people like Amanda.  To make a gift today contact your parish, visit the Bishop’s Appeal website at www.catholicfoundationgb.org/give, or call Tammy toll-free at 877-500-3580, ext. 8123.

St. Michael Prayer

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle, be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.  May God rebuke him we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls.  Amen
