A Note from Deacon Mark
In today’s gospel, Jesus tells us that Mary “has chosen the better part.” Mary has learned that what is really important for her and for all of us, is to sit at the feet of Jesus and listen to His words. It can be hard to sit and listen to the voice of the Lord when we feel we have so many urgent things that need to be done. We want to get up and move! It can be hard to listen when our minds are preoccupied with worries and anxieties. It is hard to let go of our worries. Even worrying, in a funny way of thinking, means I am doing something. To slow down, to listen to Jesus speaking to our hearts, means I have to make a choice to slow down. I have to decide that prayer and quiet will really help be the child of God that I am called to be. There is one bit of advice I can give to help you with this. Go on a retreat. A retreat is a time to get away and spend time with God. A retreat is a time for spiritual renewal and healing in your life. There might be all kinds of excuses and God has heard them all. All I can say is …..go on a retreat anyway!
We are fortunate to have in our area a local Emmaus Retreat ministry which offers Men’s and Women’s retreats in the fall. This year, a Women’s Emmaus Retreat will be held October 4-5, 2019 and an Emmaus Men’s Retreat is being offered October 25-27, 2019. Both are held locally at Camp Tekawitha on Loon Lake. There is more to say about all this but I have another idea. For those who are really interested in learning more about this Emmaus retreat experience, I am inviting you to a free informational dinner that will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2019 at 5:50 PM, hosted at Camp Tekawitha. This will be a free prime rib dinner that a benefactor has generously sponsored. Yes, a free prime rib dinner. There will be no time share offers given but only a chance to learn about the Emmaus retreat and what it has meant for those that have attended. I can’t think of a better deal other than a free lunch with Bishop Ricken! If interested, please RSVP at joinemmaus.com or call/text- Isaac Follett at 512-695-3114.
Upon Further Reflection:
There’s a story about a monastery in Europe perched high on a cliff hundreds of feet in the air. The only way to reach the monastery was to be suspended in a basket that was pulled to the top by several monks who tugged with all their strength.
Obviously the ride up the steep cliff in that basket was terrifying. About halfway up, one tourist became nervous when he noticed that the rope was old and frayed.
With a trembling vice he asked the monk with him in the basket how often they changed the rope. The monk thought for a moment and answered, “Whenever it breaks.”
In His Mercy,
Deacon Mark
The Mass – A slice at a time
On Eucharistic Prayer
f) The Oblation, by which, in this very memorial, the Church, in particular that gathered here and now, offers the unblemished sacrificial Victim in the Holy Spirit to the Father. The Church’s intention, indeed, is that the faithful not only offer this unblemished sacrificial Victim but also learn to offer their very selves, and so day by day to be brought, through the mediation of Christ, into unity with God and with each other, so that God may at last be all in all.
Kateri Prayer Circle
Never underestimate the power of prayer. Just one small prayer can change your life. If you or your family members need prayers for any reason, please call one of our Kateri Prayer Circle members, who will in turn call members of their group. Soon, many prayers will be offered for your specific prayer request. Please call:
Fay Waupochick 715-799-3437
Leatha Grinhaug 715-994-1098
You can also call the parish office with your Prayer request 715-799-3811.
