 A Note from Your Deacon

I ran across this article by Victor Parachin in the July 19-25, 2020 edition of the Catholic periodical, “Our Sunday Visitor,” and thought I would share the highlights with you. The article is called, “The 7 Habits of Highly Peaceful People.”  These habits may increase attitudes and actions that bring calm and tranquility while reducing those that generate disorder and chaos.

1. They have a routine- to have a peaceful mind, it’s essential to establish and maintain rhythm and routine day-by-day.

2. They respond rather react- When an unwelcome situation emerges for them, highly peaceful people create a space, a pause to adjust their thinking and emotions so they act in a skillful way.

3.  They pray- prayer is the spiritual practice that links the peaceful person to God, the ultimate source of peace.

4.  They spend time outside- Being in a natural setting is vital for an overall sense of peacefulness and harmony.  Being outdoors lowers the body’s stress hormones, pulse rate, and blood pressure.

5. They don’t judge- the peaceful person is aware, but for the grace of God, there goes I.  They strive to understand what it is like to live in another person’s shoes.

6. They are not troubled by trouble- peaceful people know that life is unpredictable and constantly changing.  So they anticipate good times as well as difficult times flowing with life’s changes and challenges.

7.  They forgive- It’s impossible to be a peaceful person while holding a grudge, harboring feelings of resentment or entertaining thoughts of revenge.  They choose and strive to forgive.

I would add one more habit- read scripture daily. “Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7).”

In His Mercy,

Deacon Mark

Our Seminarians Need your Help

Over the past 15 years, our diocese has witnessed incredible growth in all vocations including the priesthood. Let’s keep that growth going and support our future spiritual fathers! Please be generous with our Annual Seminarian Collection: Hope for the Future, Help them Today. An important letter will arrive in your mailbox this week asking for your help. Next weekend is the kick off of the 15th year of this annual collection. Your donation provides tuition, room and board, insurance, a small stipend for our seminarians and will support the Vocation Office’s efforts to call forth more candidates. The total annual cost for our 14 seminarians is around $1,000.000. As friends and followers of Jesus, we support each other. In order to make your gift today, visit www.catholicfoundationgb.org/give.

The Mass: A Slice at a time

One who has received the blessed Eucharist may receive it again on the same day only within a eucharistic celebration in which that person participates, without prejudice to the provision of canon 921.2 (Canon 917). The possibility of receiving communion a second time in the same day can only exist within the Mass, since the reasons that justify this are found precisely in the circumstances that characterize this celebration for example: the fulfilment of the Sunday obligation on the previous evening, evening Mass on Holy Thursday, the second Mass on Easter, ritual Masses, funerals, etc.

St. Michael Prayer

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle, be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.  May God rebuke him we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls.  Amen

2020 FUNDRAISERS $6,855.00 of $10,000

Due to COVID-19, the 2020 fundraisers at St. Michael’s have been suspended until it is safe to resume. The Festival scheduled for June 27th has been our biggest fundraising event raising on average $10,000. We are suggesting a non-fundraiser fundraiser in lieu of this big event. You do not need to sell or buy raffle tickets, cook anything, bake anything, volunteer your time, work in the heat, set up, clean up or do dishes! We would be grateful for monetary donations to offset the loss of this source of revenue to keep our Parish solvent. Please mail or drop off donations at the Parish office or drop in the collection basket indicating it is for fundraising. Thank you for your continued support of our Parish during this time.
