A Note from Deacon Mark
In today’s gospel reading, Jesus teaches us about the importance of persistence in prayer. In the passage, Jesus instructs his disciples to pray to God their Heavenly Father with the same boldness, daring, persistence and perseverance that Abraham displayed and that the friend in need in the parable employed. Jesus gives us the assurance that God will not be irritated by our requests or unwilling to meet them with generosity. Paul Harvey once told a story about a 3-year-old boy who went to the grocery store with his mother. Before they entered she had certain instructions for the little tyke: “Now you’re not going to get any chocolate chip cookies, so don’t even ask.” She put him in the child’s seat and off they went up and down the aisles. He was doing just fine until they came to the cookie section. Seeing the chocolate chip cookies he said, “Mom, can I have some chocolate chip cookies?” She said, “I told you not even to ask. You’re not going to get any at all.” They continued down the aisles, but in their search for certain items she had to backtrack and they ended up in the cookie aisle again. “Mom, can I please have some chocolate chip cookies?” She said, “I told you that you can’t have any. Now sit down and be quiet.” Finally, they arrived at the checkout. The little boy sensed that the end was in sight, that this might be his last chance. He stood up on the seat and shouted in his loudest voice, “In the name of Jesus, may I have some chocolate chip cookies?” Everyone in the checkout lanes laughed and applauded. Do you think the little boy got his cookies? Of course! The other shoppers moved by his daring pooled their resources. The little boy and his mother left with 23 boxes of chocolate chip cookies. So….”ask and you will receive; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”
Upon Further Reflection:
I asked God for strength that I might achieve; I was made weak that I might learn humbly to obey.
I asked for health that I might do great things; I was given infirmity that I might do better things.
I asked for riches that I might be happy; I was given poverty that I might be wise.
I asked for all things that I might enjoy life; I was given life that I might enjoy all things.
I got nothing that I asked for but everything I had hoped for; despite myself, my prayers were answered. I am, among all people, most richly blessed.
In His Mercy,
Deacon Mark
The Mass – A slice at a time
The Communion Rite
Since the celebration of the Eucharist is the Paschal Banquet, it is desirable that in accordance with the Lord’s command his Body and Blood should be received as spiritual food by those of the faithful who are properly disposed. This is the sense of the fraction and the other preparatory rites by which the faithful are led more immediately to Communion.
Kateri Prayer Circle
Never underestimate the power of prayer. Just one small prayer can change your life. If you or your family members need prayers for any reason, please call one of our Kateri Prayer Circle members, who will in turn call members of their group. Soon, many prayers will be offered for your specific prayer request. Please call:
Fay Waupochick 715-799-3437
Leatha Grinhaug 715-994-1098
You can also call the parish office with your Prayer request 715-799-3811.
In Search of Young Adults!
SPIRITUS is seeking Catholic young adults, 21-29 years of age, to join the SPIRITUS missionary team this August. SPIRITUS ignites the faith in thousands of young Catholics through retreats and parish youth ministry each year! Missionaries live in community and travel to parishes and schools throughout Wisconsin; they receive training, formation, spiritual direction, lodging, food, a monthly allowance, health insurance and a $2,000 stipend upon completion of the 9-month program. It is a unique opportunity to serve our Lord and help young Catholics grow in faith. Visit www.spiritusministries.org, contact Rachel at recruiter@spiritusministries.org, or (920) 722-8918 x113 for more information.
Let us remember in prayer Chad Caldwell who was called by God to eternal life. We also remember his family and friends, and pray that God will give them consolation and peace.
