A Note from Fr. Joel
Fourth Sunday of Lent:
The fourth Sunday of Lent is traditionally known as Laetare Sunday, so-called from the first word of the antiphon at the Introit, Laetare – “Rejoice” taken from the Latin translation of Is.66:10-11, and sets a tone of joyful anticipation of the Easter mystery, as does the permitted use of rose-colored vestment. Likewise, instruments may be played at Mass and the altar may be decorated with flowers.
In today’s Gospel we heard this incident: “As Jesus passed by he saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked him, Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind? Jesus answered: “Neither he nor his parents sinned; it is so that the works of God might be made visible through him.”
I believe some of us know that nowadays, a blind person can already read by using a Braille system. It is a series of raised dots that represent different letters and numbers. For them, a braille books are created. But in order for the blind to read in a braille format he/she needs to be taught and so learn. And yes, it is, just like most of the things in life, a time consuming and very difficult to learn.
In our life faith journey, we usually don’t see or better, we often time missed to see the workings of God in our troubled world. Sometimes because caused by our own personal tiny and several numbers of earthly pursuits putting aside God’s will.
In the word of God today and as we are invited to “rejoice”, once again let us lay down low our points of views and calculations when they are not attuned with that of God and allow the finger of God through the sacraments and teachings of the Church help us see His Divine presence and so stand steadfast in our humble faith
Co-Traveler, Fr. Joel
The Mass: A Slice at a time
Christ’s faithful are to hold the blessed Eucharist in the highest honour. They should take an active part in the celebration of the most august Sacrifice; they should receive the sacrament with great devotion and frequently, and should reverence it with the greatest adoration. In explaining the doctrine of this sacrament, pastors of souls are assiduously to instruct the faithful about their obligation in this regard. (Canon 898)
