Note from Fr. Nonito
The gospel this third Sunday of Easter narrates one of the post-resurrection appearances of Jesus to Simon Peter and some other disciples. This time, Jesus' appearance took place by the Sea of Tiberias. Some of the disciples went back to their "old ways" in Galilee. They went out again to fish as they were fishermen before they responded to Jesus' invitation to follow him. They spent they whole night trying to catch fish but they caught none. Jesus, although they did not know that it was him, told them around daybreak: "Cast the net over the right side of the boat and you find something." They did as he told them and were able to catch a multitude of fish. Then, they realized that it was Jesus, their Lord and Master.
Many of us are like the disciples. In times of disappointments and trials, our faith wavers and we tend to focus on our problems. We question God and blame him for the bad things that happen to us. We go back to our "old ways" and forget about God and the good things that he has done to us. Worse, some of us just depend on our own abilities because we have totally lost our faith in God.
The resurrection of Jesus assures us that after all sufferings, pain, trials, and persecutions, goodness will triumph over evil. We may experience difficulties in life, some seemingly heavier than the burdens of other people, but we are assured that these are temporary. If we are faithful to God's will, we shall triumph like him. If we "obey God rather than men" as the first reading this Sunday tells us, the Father who raised Jesus from the dead will also exalt us and make us share in the glory of Jesus.
In Jesus Christ,
Fr. Nonito
The Mass – A slice at a tim
On The Liturgy of the Eucharist
The offering of bread and wine is accepted by the Priest or Deacon to be carried to the altar. Now even though the faithful no longer bring from their own possessions the bread and wine intended for the liturgy as was once the case, nevertheless the rite of carrying up the offerings still keeps its spiritual efficacy and significance.
On Saturday April 27th we held our First Communion Retreat. We watched 4 videos discussing: how to enter the pews properly, how to receive communion, proper dress for Mass and how the Communion hosts are mande. The three students with help from their mothers created their banners to be hung on the pews during Mass for First Communion and prayer boxes to be used at meal time. We also ba
ked two mini loaves of bread, one to take home and share with our families and one to be blessed at Sunday Mass and shared with a prayer partner from the congregation. Congratulations to Samantha, Jason and Robert!
