A Note from Father Nonito
When Jesus was crucified there was above him an inscription saying, “This is the King of the Jews.” Is he really a king? Yes, Jesus is king but his kingship is unique. It is not wielding power, not dominance, not authority for others to become subservient. But for Jesus, kingship is humility and service. It is seeking what is the good for the other. And it takes precedence over the interest of the self. This is why Jesus humbled himself by becoming a man and laid down his own life to save us from sin.
Jesus bestows on us the unique grace of belonging to his kingdom. We become partakers of his kingdom and sharers of his kingship through our baptism. Consequently, the world should see in us the image of Jesus, our king, through our humility and loving service.
Let us adore and give praise to Jesus as we celebrate this Sunday the Solemnity of Christ the King.
In Jesus Christ
Fr. Nonito
St. Michael Faith Formation seeks to foster among young people a lifelong relationship with God and His Church so all may live as disciples who know, love and serve Him.
Religious Education Update:
On Wednesday November 20, the RE classes stayed in the basement classrooms to stay out of the set up for the Christmas Bazaar. We had our snack in the hallway and it was loud! Thanks to the teachers for making this work.
Thanks also to Marcus and Greysean who helped me clean up afterwards.
Our classes discussed this Sunday's Gospel about Christ the King and signed up for taking part in the Children's Mass. No classes next week. Happy Thanksgiving!
Next time we meet will be on December 4th, 2019 for 6:00pm Children's Mass and potluck. Please come and join us!
St. Michael Prayer
St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle, be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen
The Mass: A Slice at a time
A Priest, also, who possesses within the Church the sacred power of Orders to offer sacrifice in the person of Christ, presides by this fact over the faithful people gathered here and now, presides over their prayer, proclaims to them the message of salvation, associates the people with himself in the offering of sacrifice through Christ in the Holy Spirit to God the Father, and gives his brothers and sisters the Bread of eternal life and partakes of it with them. Therefore, when he celebrates the Eucharist, he must serve God and the people with dignity and humility, and by his bearing and by the way he pronounces the divine words he must convey to the faithful the living presence of Christ.
