A Note From Your Deacon
We hear in today's gospel of the wise virgins who were ready when the bridegroom appeared because they brought oil with them to keep their lamps bright. The foolish virgins did not think about bringing extra oil for their lamps and when they had to go and buy more, they missed the wedding feast. An elderly friend of mine once shared with me that he has his funeral coffin all bought and paid for, purchasing it from Trappist monks who make coffins as part of their ministry. He also has his funeral service all arranged as well. As a deacon, I was required to have my funeral liturgy completed before ordination but alas, I have not yet bought my Trappist-made coffin. It seems other needed things in life get in the way and demand more immediate attention. Still, all these funeral preparations my friend has made is quite impressive to me. But what is even more impressive is his preparation of a life well lived, ready for that day when he meets our Lord. You see, my friend has lived a life of deep faith and quiet charity. No touting his own horn or looking for marks of respect in the marketplace. My friend has lived a simple wisdom which understands that our time on earth is short but eternity is forever. Likely, this is the wisdom that Jesus wants of us so we can enter his kingdom with our lamps burning bright. We need oil for our lamps and to wisely have that oil with us always. The oil that lights our lamps will be the ways we have loved God and put our faith into action through humble charity to others. This kind of wisdom can be practiced by all.
Upon Further Reflection:
A retired deacon called his doctor. “Is it true, he asked, “that the medication you prescribed for me has to be taken for the rest of my life?” Yes, deacon,” the doctor assured him. “I’m afraid so.” After a few minutes of silence, the deacon said, “Well, Doc, if it is my time to go, I should be ready, after serving God all my life.”
“What are you talking about?” asked the doctor
The deacon said, “My prescription is marked No Refills!”
In His Mercy,
Deacon Mark
The Mass: A Slice at a time
The celebration and distribution of the Eucharist may take place on any day and at any hour, except those which are excluded by the liturgical laws. (Canon 931)
There are two days a year on which it is forbidden to celebrate Mass: Good Friday and Holy Saturday. Except for Viaticum, Holy Communion cannot be given on Holy Saturday; except for Viaticum and communion of the sick, on Holy Thursday, it may only be given during Mass and on Good Friday, only within the celebration of the Passion of Our Lord. In any case, apart from these exceptions and particular requirements for the Eucharistic celebration on Holy Thursday, the most convenient hour should be chosen, so that the participation of the faithful may be as great as possible.
Religious Education Update
Due to the current COVID situation, St. Michael’s Faith Formation classes will not be meeting. It is our belief that “Parents/guardians are their children’s primary and principal educators”. This guideline and philosophy of the Bishops’ of the United States is our motivation. We are sending packets to help teach children about God’s love and our Catholic faith. Every month we will send out a month’s worth of weekly lessons that go along with the Gospel reading of the week with other teaching materials about the traditions of our Catholic faith. If you wish to have the packets sent to your home, please call the parish office or pick up a form in the entrance to church.
Mass Reopening
Mass will be open at 50% capacity. If you are at high risk, please sit in the reserved front pews, socially distanced. Temperature, masks and social distancing will be enforced for the remainder of the church
St. Michael Prayer
St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle, be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen

Please mail or drop off donations at the Parish office indicating it is for fundraising. Thank you again for your continued support of our Parish during this time.
Thanksgiving Dinner Cancelled
Alvin J. Rathsack & Elmo Novelli Memorial Thanksgiving Dinner sponsored by the Knights of Columbus will be cancelled this year due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The Ghost Supper has been cancelled due to COVID restrictions. There will be Masses said on Saturday, Nov 14 at 5 pm and Sunday, Nov 15 at 9 am for the Faithful Departed of St. Michael’s in the past year. A letter was sent to each family stating the Mass that their loved one’s name will be called. Call the Parish Office if you have any questions regarding this.
Responsible for our own destiny
The refusal of the wise virgins to share may appear selfish. But here we are not talking really about lamps and oil but about people and life. There are certain things you cannot borrow or inherit. Your parents or my parents may have been the best people in the world. If so, that is a blessing beyond measure. But for all that it cannot be taken for granted that we will automatically become decent caring men and women. We can learn from one another, be inspired by one another, but in the last analysis we shape our own destiny. Character cannot be transferred or borrowed. We must build it for ourselves.
The same is true of the faith. Parents and other people are reminded that it is their responsibility to hand on the faith to the younger generation. But again faith is not like a farm of land or a legacy. It cannot be given by a parent to a child. Yes, all kinds of encouragement and good example can help enormously, but in the end, the young person as they grow up to maturity must accept or reject the invitation in his or her own heart.
The arrival of children of their own can often be a decisive moment for young parents as regards the faith. Some never seem to come back, but always remember God has his own way of welcoming people home even if along unexpected routes.
Kateri Prayer Circle
Never underestimate the power of prayer. Just one small prayer can change your life. If you or your amily members need prayers for any reason, please call one of our Kateri Prayer Circle members, who will in turn call members of their group. Soon, many prayers will be offered for your specific prayer request. Please call:
Fay Waupochick 715-799-3437
Leatha Grinhaug 715-851-6838
You can also call the Parish Office to leave requests
Universal Giving Page
The Catholic Foundation is excited to share with us that they have created a Universal Giving Page at www.catholicfoundationgb.org/donate. This is a great resource for our parish as we do not have an on line giving program. It makes giving to our parish simple and easy! The Catholic Foundation will be cutting a check weekly to our parish along with a report of what families gave to the parish and the amount of each gift.
Holy Hour will be the first Thursday, of the month, 6-7pm. This will start in December.
Food Pantry
The food pantry will be open on Tuesday, November 17th. There will be drive up service only. Please do not get out of your vehicle and have the rear passenger seat empty.
Thrift N Gift/Garage
Thrift N Gift will be open Tuesday,November 17th.h noon to 3 pm. Only eight people can be in the store at one time and everyone must have on a mask. No children will be allowed. Social Distancing of 6 feet is required also.

While Book Share has no set times/ days to be open, it is still available to visit for finding books. Just let the office know or email Anne at sailkees@yahoo.com, or send a message through the St. Michael’s Facebook page to set up a convenient time to visit. We are over loaded and have all sorts of books for all ages! Thanksgiving children’s books will be out and soon a lot of Christmas books, both for kids and adults as well as crafts and food. Lots and lots of cookbooks, both newer and old ones!
