Salvation is the fourth element in the kerygma experience. Jesus invites us to trust Him, to turn from sin and give our lives to Him.   Trusting might be a difficult thing that always comes our way. We can never give our total self to anyone we hesitate to trust.   When I was discerning myself in entering the seminary, I was confronted with my anxieties; I will be leaving my family, what if I can’t bear the struggles of the seminary life? I am getting out of my comfort zone, I think I cannot do it. I was really blessed to have a very supportive family, my parents never had second thoughts in allowing me to follow my decision, though I knew I might become a failure again but they agree with me, this is a moment where my “want” came along with theirs, I knew this was going to work well. I was just waiting for that final assurance; to pass the entrance exam and be admitted to the seminary. God never abandoned me, from the moment I set foot in that Seminary Formation House, I said to God: “Lord, I trust in you, look upon my family keep them always safe, and be always with me”. I carry that determination to persevere in that decisive moment of my life because my family will always be with me, and I know God will never allow me to give up. The moment that I said “yes” to that call of God to follow Him, I felt He will be taking everything in His hands for me. Honestly, it was so ‘bloody’ during my seminary life, I come to meet with all the struggles that it takes to be in the seminary, I was even in that point of giving up already. It’s like how when St. Peter was drowning while crying out; “Lord, save me!”, but every time I’m in these situations, the Lord will always remind me: “I thought you have trusted everything to me”. “Take courage… do not be afraid.” There I felt bad of myself for my attitude but then I will renew my deep trust in God.

The Mass: A slice at a Time - The Liturgical Year

The introduction, the gathering, is very important. As we mentioned last week, God speaks to us as a community. Why is that? Can’t God speak to us individually? Recall the Thanksgiving dinner we started with. Couldn’t we all catch up on family news or share stories by e-mail or on Facebook? What is the difference when we are together as a family and when we are alone? Usually, a family feels stronger and more complete when everyone is together. And we are more recognizable as a family to others as well.
