Mission Statement: St. Michael’s Christian Community, located on the Menominee Indian Reservation, is a diverse Christian community reaching out to all residents, learning, loving, sharing and communicating with one another through the teachings and practices celebrated in the Mass & the holy sacraments of the Catholic Church by integrating sacred symbols and spiritual practices of the Menominee.

  A note from your Pastor:

Strange that some ignored the king's invitation to attend the wedding feast for his son. Strange that one guest was caught without the proper attire. Anyway, parables are full of strange details because parables are told to challenge, to wake up a complacent audience. What is Jesus telling us in the parable this Sunday? The parable signifies God's constant call for our entry to his kingdom. Out of goodness and graciousness, God calls and chooses us. We do not have a claim or right to his call. He opens his kingdom to all regardless of our social status or background. But God's call entails a positive response through and through. We have to follow his rules, his ways, his will.

Despite God's goodness, man refuses. People can completely ignore the initial invitation by making petty excuses, attending only to their own affairs and needs. Then there are those who resort to violence, like what the biblical people did to the prophets. Last, some people just show up or attend without active, wholehearted participation. They do not wear the prescribed garment. It is lack of good deeds, backsliding to former sinful lives.

How have we responded to God's call? With conversion and change of heart?

 In Jesus Christ,

Fr. Nonito

The Mass: A Slice at a time

Holy communion is to be given under the species of bread alone or, in accordance with the liturgical laws, under both species or, in case of necessity, even under the species of wine alone. (Canon 925)

As an exception, in case of necessity, communion may be taken under the species of wine only. These cases are those in which the communicant is unable to take solid food. In this case, after consultation with the bishop, Mass may be celebrated for the sick person. Otherwise, the Precious Blood should be put away in a suitably covered chalice in the tabernacle at the end of Mass, and taken afterwards to the sick person in suitable closed receptable, care being taken to avoid spilling. When the wine is administered, the most suitable method for each case should be chosen from amongst those specified for communion under both species. If the chalice has not been completely emptied after communion has been distributed, the minister himself should empty it and then proceed to perform the pertinent ablutions.

Religious Education Update

Due to the current COVID situation, St. Michael’s Faith  Formation classes will not be meeting. It is our belief that “Parents/guardians are their children’s primary and principal educators”. This guideline and philosophy of the Bishops’ of the United States is our motivation.  We are sending packets to help teach children about God’s love and our Catholic faith.  Every month we will send out a month’s worth of weekly lessons that go along with the Gospel reading of the week with other teaching materials about the traditions of our Catholic faith.  If you wish to have the packets sent to your home, please call the parish office or pick up a form in the entrance to church

St. Michael Prayer

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle, be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.  May God rebuke him we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls.  Amen

Green Bay Packers Food Pantry Grant

St. Michael’s Food Pantry has received a $5,000 grant from the Green Bay Packers.  This grant was written to purchase vegetables, fruit, milk, butter, eggs, cheese and meat for distribution to our food pantry recipients. This grant will also help with our Food Pantry truck maintenance/tires and fuel. Thank you and GO PACK GO!

 AbbyBank Donation

AbbyBank purchased two animals at the Shawano County Fair Auction and donated a portion of the meat to St. Michael’s Food Pantry.  Thank you so much for keeping St. Michael’s in mind.  Many families will be fed this meat.

Disaster Relief

Our prayers go out to families who have lost loved ones, homes and businesses due to the devastating impact of the Hurricanes and wildfires in the West. There will be a special collection to support humanitarian, long-term recovery and Church needs arising from these calamities. Parishioners should make their checks payable to your parish and memo for Bishops Disaster fund.  Credit Card donations can be made by calling the Catholic Foundation at 1-920-272-8121 or online at  www.catholicfoundationgb.org/give.

Eucharistic Procession Sun. Oct 11

Unite Our Nation, founded by the laity, is a non-political organization formed to help bring peace and prayer to local communities, and healing to our nation, all of which are  urgently needed for our times.  To begin to achieve this, a local Eucharistic procession has been organized to take place in Shawano, WI.

Please join Deacon Mark and others on Sunday, Oct. 11, 2020, at Sacred Heart Church, Shawano at 2:30 PM for this faith event. (It is a Packer bye week). This is a family friendly activity. A similar event took place in Madison on Aug. 15, 2020, attended by 3,000 people. You can see a video of what it’s like at uniteournation.net. A Eucharistic rosary rally is a time to give witness to people of all races and beliefs. Polarizing politics will be kept out of this rally and the focus instead will be on prayer to unite our nation. If you are interested in more information, please email Deacon Mark at mpfull7@gmail.com.  In the meantime, take a look at the Unite Our Nation website uniteournation.net to learn more and get more details on this event!

2020 FUNDRAISERS $7,655 of $10,000

Due to COVID-19, the 2020 fundraisers at St. Michael’s have been suspended until it is safe to resume. We would be grateful for monetary donations to offset the loss of this source of revenue ($10,000) to keep our Parish solvent. Please mail or drop off donations at the Parish office or drop in the collection basket indicating it is for fundraising. We need $2,069 to reach our goal. Thank you for your continued support of our Parish during this time.

 Kateri Prayer Circle

Never underestimate the power of prayer. Just one small prayer can change your life. If you or your amily members need prayers for any reason, please call one of our Kateri Prayer Circle members, who will in turn call members of their group.  Soon, many prayers will be offered for your specific prayer request.  Please call:

Fay Waupochick 715-799-3437

Leatha Grinhaug 715-851-6838

You can also call the Parish Office to leave requests

 Universal Giving Page

The Catholic Foundation is excited to share with us that they have created a Universal Giving Page at www.catholicfoundationgb.org/donate.  This is a great resource for our parish as we do not have an on line giving program. It makes giving to our parish simple and easy!  The Catholic Foundation will be cutting a check weekly to our parish along with a report of what families gave to the parish and the amount of each gift.
