       A Note from Deacon Mark

 1.    October is the month the Church devotes to the Holy Rosary with the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary falling this year on Monday, October 7th.   The rosary is a prayer and devotion that has changed the lives of many. It is to walk the life of Christ through the eyes of His Mother. Our eyes are ever fixed on Our Savior, but under the loving guidance of the Mother he gave us. St. John Paul II referred to devotion to the Rosary as a “genuine training in holiness” that guided Christians in the contemplation of the great mysteries of our Faith.  It is a prayer of great power and importance in the Christian life. It is one that is capable of healing the wounds in our world, whether caused by violence or the splintering of the family. It is not a mindless rote prayer. If you have not added this prayer to your repertoire, then October is a good month to do so.  The rosary is often said before Mass; come early to pray the rosary this month.

2.  At last year’s Men’s Emmaus Retreat; we had one man attend, from our four parishes.  It is said that it is good to set goals and my goal for this year’s Emmaus Men’s Retreat is for three men from our parishes to attend this year’s retreat.  What that really means is that I need three wives to encourage and push their husbands to attend!!!  I have found that this is probably the most effective method! The Emmaus Men’s Retreat for this year is Oct. 25-27. See me for more information or pick up a retreat brochure in church.

3. Upon Further Reflection:

A husband stepped on one of those scales that tell your fortune and weight and dropped in a coin. “Look at this, “he said to his wife, showing her the white card. “It says I’m energetic, bright, resourceful, and a great lover.”

“Yeah,” his wife nodded, and it’s got your weight wrong, too!”

In His mercy,

Deacon Mark

The Mass – A slice at a time Communion

To bring to completion the prayer of the People of God, and also to conclude the whole Communion Rite, the Priest pronounces the Prayer after Communion, in which he prays for the fruits of the mystery just celebrated. At Mass a single Prayer after Communion is said, and it ends with the shorter conclusion; that is: if the prayer is directed to the Father: Through Christ our Lord. If it is directed to the Father, but the Son is mentioned at the end: Who lives and reigns forever and ever. If it is directed to the Son: Who live and reign for ever and ever. The people make the prayer their own by means of the acclamation: Amen.

Religious Education News

We now have 21 students from 1st grade thru High School.  Still time to sign up your children and grandchildren!  Deadline is October 10th.  Don’t forget Kindergarten and 1st grade will meet during 9am Mass on the first three Sundays of the month.  Any child 3-7 years old who hasn’t celebrated their First Communion is welcome to join us.  This class is free.  We have begun our mandatory Safety training with our students and will continue this month.  Next week we look forward to a visit from the Kateri prayer circle.  Leatha Grinhaug will speak to the children about the important role that Kateri group provides in our parish.
