A note from your Pastor:
A Pharisee questions Jesus to entrap him. Jesus is not intimidated even if the challenge is presented in bad faith, seizing it as an opportunity to teach which among the commandments is the greatest.
Jesus points out a scriptural text from Deuteronomy 6:5 that speaks about loving God ‘with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.” However, what surprises everyone is that Jesus suddenly mentions another passage from Leviticus 19:18 that zeroes in on loving one’s neighbor as oneself. The wisdom of Jesus lies in that he links the commandment to love God and the commandment to love one’s neighbor and presents them as one single commandment. If a person truly loves God, then the person will not violate any of God’s commandments and will pursue to follow God’s teachings. Moreover, the person who truly loves God will not injure his or her fellow human beings but will strive to love them with the love of the Lord. No one who truly loves God and neighbor will intentionally wrong either.
As followers of Jesus, we are called to translate these two commandments in a thousand ways in our life.
In Jesus Christ,
Fr. Nonito
The Mass: A Slice at a time
The eucharistic celebration is to be carried out either in the Latin language or in another language, provided the liturgical texts have been lawfully approved. (Canon 928)
In both cases, the provisions of the lawfully approved text must be followed very faithfully considering the warning that, apart from the Holy See (and, according to the norms of the law, the bishop and the bishops’ conferences, after obtaining the approval of the Holy See), “no one, not even a priest may on his own authority, add, omit or change anything in the liturgy. Priests should therefore make sure that they so preside over the celebration of the Eucharist that the faithful know that they are taking part not in a rite established on private initiative, but in the Church’s public worship the regulation of which was entrusted by Christ to the Apostles and their successors.”
Religious Education Update
Due to the current COVID situation, St. Michael’s Faith Formation classes will not be meeting. It is our belief that “Parents/guardians are their children’s primary and principal educators”. This guideline and philosophy of the Bishops’ of the United States is our motivation. We are sending packets to help teach children about God’s love and our Catholic faith. Every month we will send out a month’s worth of weekly lessons that go along with the Gospel reading of the week with other teaching materials about the traditions of our Catholic faith. If you wish to have the packets sent to your home, please call the parish office or pick up a form in the entrance to church.
Sidewalk by Church
You may have noticed that a large portion of the sidewalk in front of the church and on the side has been replaced. We received a donation from Mary Dvoratchek, Hard Rock Sawing and Drilling to pay for this. Thank you for thinking of St. Michael in helping to keep our property maintained.
St. Michael Prayer
St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle, be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen

October Respect Life Month
Catholic Considerations for our Earthly Passing
We prepare for eternal life by choosing to love and follow God. Our journey with Christ includes equipping our consciences to make morally good judgments at the end of life. While no summary can substitute for thorough catechesis, one thing is clear; we are entrusted by God with the gift of life. This obliges us to make use of appropriate, effective medical care. The Church affirms the inviolable dignity of every person, regardless of the duration or extent of the person’s incapacity. Nothing diminishes the sanctity of a person’s life, or the obligation to protect and care for it. Those who are sick should not be alone, and, even after death, accompaniment continues by praying for those who have passed.
