Fr. Joel Writing

Jesus tells his disciples to cut off their hands if these causes them to sin. We may wonder why Jesus is harsh in his recommendations. Is there no other way to stop committing sin? When it comes to sinning, especially giving scandal, Jesus gives no concessions. He wants to excise all causes of scandals. Scandals are grave offenses not only to God but also to the community. Scandals frustrate God’s plan to have the flock grow.

We have no excuse if we miss the point. We know that our relationship with Jesus, and our relationship with the Father through Jesus, is the foundation of everything else and if our relationship with God is strong, then other relationships in our lives grow stronger. Then we, too, can be prophets for the Lord, performing mighty deeds in his name. Have a blessed Sunday everyone!

Co-Traveler, Fr. Joel

The Mass – A slice at a time

The Penitential Act

After the greeting of the people, the Priest calls upon the whole community to take part in the Penitential Act, which, after a brief pause for silence, it does by means of a formula of general confession. The rite concludes with the Priest’s absolution, which, however, lacks the efficacy of the Sacrament of Penance. From time to time on Sundays, especially in Easter Time, instead of the customary Penitential Act, the blessing and sprinkling of water may take place as a reminder of Baptism.

Faith Formation

On Wednesday September 26th we held our first class for Faith Formation and had 24 students.  There is still time to register for classes.  Next Wednesday, Oct. 3rd we will be praying the Living Rosary. Bring your rosary and come and join us at 6:15pm. Families are encouraged to attend. We will provide a light snack afterwards.

Lectors and Eucharistic Ministers Needed

Come help celebrate the Mass by joining us as a lector or Eucharistic minister on Saturday or Sundays. Eucharistic ministers must be confirmed Catholics.

Preparation is minimal and the rewards of this service are enriching and fulfilling. Please contact the Parish Office at St. Michaels if interested. (715) 799-3811..

St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, Newton Thursday, October 4 from 6-7:30 p.m.

Thrift & Gift Furniture Garage:

We are looking for some strong individuals to help with pick up of furniture and miscellaneous household items.  The current volunteers doing this job are in their 70’s and 80’s.   It is getting very difficult for these volunteers to load/unload furniture.  This would not be a great time commitment.  When we get a call for a large pick up, a time would be set up. If you are interested in helping, please call the Parish Office at 715-799-3811

Food Pantry

The food pantry will be open Tuesday, October 2nd and 16th from 1-3 pm. We are in need of brown paper bags, personal hygiene items.

We are currently looking for silverware and we are in need of towels.  All money made at Thrift & Gift/Furniture Garage is given directly to the Food Pantry. The Food Pantry buys food as needed. Thank you.
