A Note from Fr Joel
The rich man in the parable that Jesus shared with his listeners, is not condemned because of his dishonest means in acquiring richness, or maybe for being rude and cruel with Lazarus, but because he chose to ignore Lazarus.
Amen, who knows how many times in our lives, we acted exactly just like this rich guy in the parable, IGNORING THE POOR, choosing not to listen to our good heart’s cry to lend a hand or extend a short, small SOS to our needy neighbors near and far because we are so and excessively concerned about our own long term security till death do us part.
By experience though, we never witnessed a funeral passing from the church to the cemetery with U-Haul trucks with all the stuff the dead person had acquired for years, following after the hearse and the mourning family.
So we can have all the beautiful stuff in this earthly life but please without forgetting the needs or maybe the basic needs of our neighbors that very often the Church cries out laud as a humble stewards or middleman between the rich and the poor.
For those who showed no concern, do you think God will care? Let us examine therefore ourselves and maybe humbly ask God to forgive us right away in the sacrament of reconciliation and give us the necessary strength to be a generous neighbor to the needy.
God bless us all!
Co-Traveler, Fr. Joel
Reflections To Nurture A Missionary Heart
Just as Jesus sent out His Apostles to preach the Good News, He expects that all who follow Him will reveal our faith through daily words and deeds. Moreover, we show respect for our neighbors who do not know or believe in our Lord by acknowledging their spiritual and material concerns. We are all meant to be people of truth, compassion and peace – for our own sake, as well as the whole world.
The Mass – A slice at a time Communion
However, if there is no singing, the antiphon given in the Missal may be recited by the faithful, or by some of them, or by a reader; otherwise, it is recited by the Priest himself after he has received Communion and before he distributes Communion to the faithful. When the distribution of Communion is over, if appropriate, the Priest and faithful pray quietly for some time. If desired, a Psalm or other canticle of praise or a hymn may also be sung by the whole congregation. To be continued…
